Running the AVG virus full scan results in the computer rebooting after about 10 minutes. Scans used to take hours (overnight) to run. I'm not sure what has caused the reboot to start occuring.
Any ideas on why a full scan now reboots the computer?
Malwarebytes Anti-Malware has no resident application; it is an on demand scanner only
Windows Defender does not launch on startup
Spybot Search and Destroy Tea Timer resident scan is not enabled
Spyware Blaster defines restricted sites in Internet Explorer with no resident components
Malwarebytes and the COMODO firewall are the only applications that are different from what I have used for 3-5 years. Malwarebytes is an additional scanner that I began using but does not have a resident component.
The problem with AVG full scans rebooting the computer has only occured with AVG 9.0. Previous versions did not have any problems scanning.
There are dump files in the C:\Windows\minidump folder. There are 18 dump files dating from 1/10/2010 up to 2/14/2010, each 88 KB in size.
I had the same problem and found a setting for rebooting the computer.
From the Scheduled Scans tab on the main screen click on the link "Additional Scan Settings..." This will opena little ialog that has two checkboxes oon it. The first says "Shutdown computer after scan cpompletion" Uncheck this box, then click the OK button in the dialog box.
BTW, I am running AVG 9.0.730 in Vista Home Premium.
Thanks for the suggestion. This isn't the problem in my case as the check box to "shutdown the computer after scan completion" is unchecked and the computer reboots long before the scan would be complete. There is something else causing the problem.
The memory test indicated bad memory so I removed the bad memory and ran the memory test again without errors. I then ran an AVG scan overnight with "Scan system environment" checked and once again the computer rebooted before completion.
