Hi all,

Tomorrow morning there will be an antivirus update released which fixes the problem temporarily. AVG is working on permanent solution.

We apologize for inconvenience. Thank you

Updated my AVG AV and still getting the same issue with the iTunes Library.itl file.

I wasn't having any problems with iTunes until the update that installed this morning at 9:48am cst. Once the computer rebooted, iTunes had lost everything. How do I get it back?

Disappearing iTunes Library..

I'm in the same boat as all of you. I could scream
2 year paid subscription renewal and this problem of the disappearing iTunes library started 2 days ago. I can only hope this problem is resolved in a timely manner. Ignoring the problem only upsets the customer. I don't want to use another antivirus program, so far AVG2013 has been reliable, and I've had no problems. If developers can't fix this, I'll be forced to use something else and get my money refunded.

For those that want to restore your iTunes library (yes its still there) I found the following info helpful.

The section of using a "more recent .tmp file in the main iTunes folder that can be renamed as iTunes Library.itl to restore the library to a recent state" is what helped me.
After renaming the current (corrupt) version of my iTunes library file and then renaming the most recent temp file (iT 9.tmp) as iTunes Library.itl it worked perfectly.

So just look in the folder for iTunes. You'll see a list of temp files, makes sure to click on Date modified and it will list the tmp files by date. Use the most recent one before the "problems" started.
Unfortunately you'll have to do this several times since AVG refuses to leave those files alone. The steps listed above are just temporary, but one way of returning your iTunes library.

I've enclosed my logs as well.

I'm not computer literate; could you please give me a step by step for how to do this? Thanks so much!

Turns out, the auto update this morning was 6226; updating to 6227 didn't correct the problem. Followed the instructions from the link to the update you provided and all seems right with iTunes now. Thanks much!

I tried everything that people suggested, even the steps in the weekly update but none of them worked. Can i get some info on a fix from AVG?

Update Ineffective..

I've registered just to state that, despite updating AVG an hour ago - and following the steps suggested by AVG to restore my library - my iTunes library is still resetting itself.

Clearly the problem hasn't been solved by the latest update.

I have been following this issue as it also has happened to me. I also installed the AVG update and followed the Itunes instructions but nothing has changed. This has all been very frustrating, I hope this is resolved soon because I would hate to have to uninstall AVG, it has been very useful.

itunes messed up by avg?..

the update is not working for me either.
in my case replacing the iTunes.xml file is what restored iTunes.
Happening 3 times a day.
Mind you I have no proof that AVG(free) is the cause of the problem.
I have excluded the "mymusic" folder from scans but still have the issue

This happened to me for the first time last evening. After searching the web for a fix, I found the suggestion of reinstalling a previous .xml file. Everything was back to normal. Today the same thing happened again; I saved the .xml file in a backup folder last night, so it was easy to reinstall it today. Then I found the AVG link thread here. Has there been any movement from AVG on a fix for this? My version of AVG is fully updated.

Hi guys,

I'm sorry to see that the issue still persists.

I'd like to ask those who would like to actively participate on resolving this issue to send us AVG Diagnostics output. Download and run the runner.exe, fill in your e-mail address, attach link to this thread and click the Diagnose and send results button. Let me know once data are sent.
Note that the developers may contact you directly (based on data analysis) on your e-mail with further requests.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation.
