You can disable AVGIDSAgent according to this article.
This does not work (for me, at least) for the AVGIDSAgent service: the "Stop" button is dis-abled (greyed out), and when I click "ok" after changing startup type from "automatic" to "manual" I receive a msg: "access denied", and the startup type remains "automatic".
I had to use the Windows "Add/Remove" tool, and the use "Change" (not "Remove") for AVG. (This is with AVG 2013 Free, WinXP (home) SP3.)
I don't know what AVGidsagent is or does but i've managed to disable it.
It was taking up between 60% and 90% of my CPU so i used 'Starter' by 'Codestuff', it's freeware from 'http://www.portablefreeware.com' and you don't have to install it.
I temporarily disabled AVG protection then used 'Starter' to disable the 'avgidsagent'.
Why it 'eats up' my CPU time i don't know, what it does is a mystery.
It's putting me off making a purchase if there's problems like this.
 I have had it with this problem (avgidsagent.exe e<50%+ CPU)!!! AVG developers ignore this issue, tech support for this is non-existent, and there is no software fix other than "disabling components of a product I paid for! Instructing a user to uninstall and reinstall this software over and over again is such useless information, it's like talking to someone from Microsoft, yet this is the advice given by tech support. I am a developer myself and anyone with half a brain knows that uninstallling software still leaves files and registry entries in Windows systems, therefore that advice is useless. The CPU is drained constantly by as much as 60% and as low as 17%. I'm not even looking for answers anymore (after posting, contacting support, having a "live chat", etc.) AVG developers are dumbfounded at this problem and it appears they lack the expertise to correct the problem. The way I see it, a paid product should be in a state of active development and should have expert support for problems. I made the mistake of purchasing AVG Internet Security 2013 before I knew of this problem. I will not make that mistake again. I will purchase a competitor's product and say goodbye to AVG.
