I had what looked like a nasty virus/malware attack yesterday. Lost every icon on my desktop, my internet access too, and had to reset my pc several times. It only started in safe mode. Did AVG full scan and nothing found. After about 3 hours I reset pc again and everything came back as normal !!
However I now can't see any of the green tick box icons alongside search results when I do Google/Yahoo searches. (The boxes that say a site is OK and safe to visit and that gives a pop up when you hover over.)
I also get this pop up message when first logging onto Firefox/Google search screen
Any idea what may have happened and if I can get the searches back to how they were? I have looked at everything in avg internet security centre and it looks normal, ie. it should all be working.
As far as I can tell everything else is back to before the incident.
Thanks for reply, I'm doing all those things now and will send
Everything seems fine except my AVG LinkScanner. Safe Search isn't showing the green "tick" boxes on search results. It is however showing as active in the control panel.
Also I can't get AVG security toolbar to show unless I go into Firefox Add Ons and disable Safe Search. Doing this also stops the pop up when I open Firefox (See above. pop up is "Javascrip Application. Error:TypeError: boxOverlay_avg is null")
That has already been uninstalled - it was installed this morning on someone else's recommendation, and never activated so I deleted it straight away. I can't see it anywhere on my pc so assume it has gone?
Running the other GMER scan now and will attach as soon as finished
