Same problem here on 2 computers. Reboot did not help. Just did the program update to 424 last night, powered up both systems this morning, and there ya go, update not working.

Computer #1

Windows XP Media Center Edition 2002 SP2
AVG Free 8.5.424, db 270.14.46/2477
Windows Firewall
Ethernet connection to router; ISP Xplornet (satellite)
Malwarebytes 1.41 (real time); SuperAntispyware free edition (not running);
antique version of Spybot S & D, no resident features running & don't use anymore
Norton Internet Security 2005, uninstalled about 4 years ago.
ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite, uninstalled about 1.5 years ago
Webroot Firewall, tried and uninstalled several months ago.

Computer #2 (laptop):

Windows XP Pro SP2
AVG Free 8.5.424, db 270.14.46/2477
Wireless connection to router, same ISP
Malwarebytes 1.41 (real time); SuperAntispyware free edition (not running);
antique version of Spybot S & D, no resident features running & don't use anymore
Tried and uninstalled PCTools Firewall Plus about 1.5 months ago.
Currently using Outpost Free Firewall 2009
No other antivirus software has ever been installed on this laptop.

Both firewalls have AVG's components permitted.

Same problem here.

My PC seemed to be losing cookies last night (or at least, forgetting passwords), but this may be coincidental...

Hi John, rebooted and initially looked as if ok - when I then tried an update again it has come back to the CTF issue again.

Same problem here.

Last time this happened the advice was to go and delete the existing ctf files. This time there don't seem to be any to delete.

Interestingly the new AVG 9.0 free doesn't seem to be affected

Yes, my copy of AVG free 8.5 now seems to be updating properly.

Thank you AVG for your quick response.
