Sluggish Surfing With IE8, Though With Google Chrome And Mozilla Too!

Hi,

I'm using windows XP. Since upgrading to version 9 on my desktop, I'm having freezing issues as well. When I click on a hyperlink, I either get no response, or have to click several times to get a reaction. Often, I then see the browser 'looking' for the page (i can see the new address appearing in the address bar), but it just keeps looking with no response. I then have to press re-load many times for it to recover the page.

It happens with IE8, Google Chrome AND Mozilla - it's driving me nuts!

In addition, just to see if it was AVG 9, I then (foolishly) upgraded from 8.5 to 9 on my laptop too, now it displays exactly the same fault.

Can you advise on how to revert to 8.5? I loved it. Or, can you suggest a cure to 9.0 for me?

Please do not hijack someone else's help thread by posting your comments, questions or opinions in their help thread. I've split your post away from the thread you had posted in and created a new thread.

RE: Hijacking... In short, there are two types of forums... discussion forums and support forums. In a support forum like this... if you post your comments, questions or opinions in someone else's help thread... you are interrupting the purpose of that thread, to help with that user's problem... aka you are hijacking it. You can certainly add additional help to that other user, but you cannot post your comments, questions, opinions or your own request for help in their thread.

Please read the Forum Rules.

Please provide us more information about your system so that we may have it to base our suggestions on, see What information should I include?.

I'm sorry BigAl that you perceived I was 'hijacking', I always feel I'm quite a responsible 'poster' on internet forums - I felt my problem was exactly the same as the original poster, and I was simply adding more detail.

However, I've now subsequently discovered the fix - here it is.....

Open the AVG user interface (right click on the AVG icon on the system tray)

Right click on the 'link scanner' and 'open', then disable the three settings at the bottom. save your changes (ie make sure all the boxes are unticked). Then close that window. Then 'right click' on the link scanner icon and place a tick on the 'ignore the state of this component' - if you don't do this, you'll get a warning triangle appearing on the AVG icon in your system tray.

It took me three days of faffing around with every one of my browser settings and numerous other crap before I worked this out!!

My surfing speed has now returned to what it was when I had version 8.5 installed. Hopefully AVG will have a more permanent fix for this soon in 9.0, so that I can re-enable LinkScanner.
