IPv6 Support For Proxy?

I am running an IPv6 only Vlan for testing and help plan my internal migration to IPv6.
I can't seem to get Free AVG automatic updates via IPv6. proxy.
It is no problem with IPv4 on another test machine on a different Vlan using the same proxy (it supports both IPv4 and IPv6).

I'm posting this from the IPv6 only machine in question using an IPv6 enabled squid 3.1 proxy.
squid bridges IPv6 and IPv4 just fine as you can see.

Is there some special switch, option or syntax I may have missed to use IPv6 (proxy) for updates?

In case you need to know: my test system is running Microsoft Vista Ultimate 64 with all current patches, Free AVG 8.5.375.

PS: In the meantime I've tried Avira's free Antivir Personal and it does support IPv6 proxy (using my IE8 settings).

Hi,
Sorry for no response, I have passed it to proper persons, but not receive any answer. So I have checked it by myself and discussed with other colleagues with result:
It should be possible to use IPv6 address by default or name of the server, if it is correctly translated by your DNS server. This should depend on settings of your computer.

If the issue still persists, could I ask you to upload the "avgupd.log" file in an archive to some online storage for brief analysis?
The log file is stored in this folder*:

C:\ProgramData\AVG8\Log

Thanks

* Some files or folders could be hidden by default. This can be changed in Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Folder Options -> View tab -> Show hidden files and folders. (The location and names can vary, depending on the operating system version).

Sorry, this time it took me quite a while.

Here goes:

http://www.kostis.net/avg/avgupd.txt

Proxy settings are set to manual:

infracore-6:3128 with authentication

nslookup infracore-6
Server: infracore-6.kostis.net
Address: 2001:470:9f3f:65::11

Name: infracore-6.kostis.net
Address: 2001:470:9f3f:65::11

It appears your update servers do not support IPv6.
If they did I could reach them without that proxy.

nslookup guru.avg.com
Server: infracore-6.kostis.net
Address: 2001:470:9f3f:65::11

Name: guru.avg.com
Address: 212.96.161.234

nslookup bguru.avg.cz
Server: infracore-6.kostis.net
Address: 2001:470:9f3f:65::11

Name: bguru.avg.cz
Address: 193.86.3.44

Hi,
sorry for any confusion about mentioned function - I discussed it with developer of AVG update process and he confirmed, that usage of IPv6 proxy server for update is not possible as used curl library probably supports only IPv4. Also the update log points to this with message:
MSG: gethostbyname(2) failed for infracore-6
MSG: Couldn't resolve proxy 'infracore-6'

I add request of this function to our system as enhancement for AVG update.

Please be informed that the provided update log contains two attempts for update, the second failed with issue with IPv6, but the first one failed with the same error as is described at this FAQ 1867 - AVG update - Access forbidden by server.

Is AVG update functional on mentioned computer without using IPv6 proxy?

Thanks

This particular machine is IPv6 only. While I installed it it was connected to another Vlan and ran IPv4 and Free AVG update worked with both direct access and via the same proxy on IPv4 (squid 3.1 does both and connects both worlds).

The main idea is to figure out how much already works with IPv6 only and what doesn't. baringteeth

So far normal browsing works fine (IPv4 via proxy), so does SpyBot Search&Destroy.
