I'm wanting to verify if this information is correct or not. We are an AVG reseller (CloudCare and standard AVG Business products) and have been in contact with an AVG rep in regards to AVG's plans for supporting XP after April 2014 (when Microsoft will stop providing updates).
Before contacting the rep I searched the AVG site and our reseller portal to try and find any information but could not. All I see is that XP is supported.

This rep is telling us that AVG will stop providing definition updates for the AVG Business products (CloudCare included) as soon as Microsoft stops providing updates- so April 2014.

This is what the rep is telling us (I'm not including the reps name).

It’s only the Windows XP customers that will be affected. Since Windows XP will not be doing any more updates, we will not be able to provide definition updates.

Can anyone else from AVG confirm if this is truly the case or not? If it is the case then AVG absolutely needs to make note of this on the customer facing website as well as reseller portal.

Thank you,
Pathfinder Networks, LLC

Hi PathfinderNet,

We do not have any plans set yet for the end of life for XP so we can't say officially what will happen at the moment.

It wouldn't be helpful for us stop releasing virus updates for that operating system as there will still be a large number of users using XP by the time April comes around, so my own personal opinion and from previous experience, we will probably still provide virus definitions and basic support but any problems specific to XP that would require bug fixes would be stopped.

As soon as there is an official statement or official information I will post back.

Thanks,

Michael Allen

As an XP user with AVG licence to the end of the year, looking like I'm only going to get a botched service out of the product to the licence is up! Makes me mad when I've paid for a product!

Hi Gdes-uk,

There are no plans for AVG to stop supporting XP users. The information given to PathFinderNet was not correct. It will still be possible to install AVG on Windows XP and receive virus definitions for the forseeable future.

We use XP and do plan to either upgrade to new computers or get Windows 7 in the future, but in the meantime are we "safe". All these warnings are out there for XP users. We use AVG protection. Thank you!
