Hello everyone,

We are happy to briefly introduce you some of the important changes in the recently released AVG 2012 Service Pack 1 cumulative update (version 2012.0.2126).

Users will surely notice the AVG User Interface is redesigned (screenshot) as the first change after installing the AVG 2012 Service Pack 1. The graphical user interface is now adjusted according to users' feedback, showing a new color set and updated graphics.

The AVG Advisor features two new functionalities the Wi-Fi Guard and the Peer-To-Peer downloads notifier.

The Wi-Fi Guard (screenshot) will notify user the system is connected to a seemingly known network (the network name is known to the operating system thus the system automatically connects to it) but it is in fact a different network. The network name (known as the SSID) could be the same for different public networks. That could be abused by bad guys (who can set-up a rogue network using a trusted SSID) to retrieve used passwords, monitor your Internet browsing, or possibly to infiltrate one of your networks. More information can be found in this FAQ article.
The Peer-To-Peer downloads notifier (screenshot) will let user know that the browsing experience may be limited if there are Peer-To-Peer downloads running with Internet browser active (supported browsers: Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome; supported Peer-To-Peer clients: uTorrent, Frostwire, BitComet, BitTorrent, Vuze, Ares P2P, LimeWire, eMule, BitLord and Mediaget).

AVG Do-Not-Track (screenshot) is completely new feature, which is used to prevent the user from being tracked by various websites without the user knowing about the fact. We provide the customer with a level of control over which trackers are allowed during their browsing sessions (3 categories of trackers: Ad Networks, Social Buttons and Web Analytics; supported in Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox and Chrome).
More information can be found on this website.

Overall, there are more than 50 improvements implemented in AVG 2012 Service Pack 1:
- The Anti-Rootkit scan will now run with the full computer scan automatically (screenshot).
- The update files are now compressed using the LZMA/LZMA2 algorithm which brings better update efficiency (the downloaded files are smaller).
- When using an obsolete AVG installation package, the installation process is stopped and the most recent installation package is offered instead of the used one. This way, you are protected against the most recent threads when installing AVG.
- User may disable AVG temporarily using the AVG Tray icon menu if required; this may prove handy when a third party software installation requires the deactivating the anti-virus software temporarily, for example. In addition, you can now temporarily disable AVG untill restart of the computer (screenshot).
- The AVG Identity Protection is now able to detect malicious software running from network mapped drives. In addition, the detection of fake antivirus has been improved.
- AVG log files' size has been optimized. AVG requires less hard drive space for temporary files now.
- AVG compatibility has been improved. You can now install AVG together with Zone Alarm or Comodo Firewall software.
- AVG E-mail plugins for Bat! and Thunderbird email clients have been replaced with AVG Personal Email Scanner

Please update your AVG to check the changes yourselves.
In case you haven't received this program update offer yet, please check this sticky post.

Feel free to share your feedback on any of these changes with our product managers through this webform, or in AVG Forums. We are looking forward to read it.

Thank you
