Hi to all.

A couple of questions.

I installed AVG for gnu/Linux but it seems to have no GUI. I have been looking over Internet and over this forum too but I found nothing useful.
Is there any solution or suggestion?

Also, I am trying to scan a computer (other than the one where AVG is installed) over my LAN.
How is it possible to do it using AVG?

Thanks for your time.
Have a nice day.

Hi to all.

I have been downloading the AVG package for Gnu/Linux but unfortunately it seems to be released without a graphical user interface.

Any suggestion please?
Thank you.

Probably the best way would be a network share which you can mount and scan.

I installed avg85flx-r812-a3371.i386.tar.gz from their website under OpenSuSE Linux.

See" avgcfgctl" for config.

The daemon is installed to start automatically so I choose to not start it (using yast, don't know for
your Linux).
I start the daemon as user with
avgctl --start

I can do updates as normal user then with:
avgupdate
Normally this works but this weekend it didn't (see my other post).

you can check files with:
avgscan -awbHpci -ddd <path to files>

I wrote myself a tiny script named "doavgantivir" in ~/bin to start this:
more ~/bin/doavgantivir
:
reportoutp=/home/maff/avgreport`date +%Y%m%d_%H%M%S`;
nice -19 avgscan -awbHpci -ddd -r $reportoutp $* | grep "Files scanned"; grep "
Infections found" $reportoutp;grep "PUPs found" $reportoutp; grep "Errors repor
ted" $reportoutp

This delivers the following output:
doavgantivir test/summary2009.pdf
Files scanned : 1(1)
Infections found : 0(0)
PUPs found : 0
Errors reported : 0

you can delete ~/avgreport20100705_100346 afterwards (or change the script or
keep it ;-) ).

avgctl --stop to stop the daemon afterwards.

In my case all the files are in
/opt/avg/avg8/

If the daemon says that there is another pid file then remove
/opt/avg/avg8/var/run/*.pid
and try
avgctl --start
afterwards.

Hope this helps.
:-)
