Every time I run a scan manually, the AVG Free gets stuck at a certain file: HKLM\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\TerminalServer\AddIns\Sound Redirector. The entire system locks up and I lose all keyboard functionality. Any ideas?

System stalls at one place during a scan.... First let's start by cleaning up all temporary files and check for registry issues. We prefer a util called CCleaner found at http://www.ccleaner.com which does an even better job than the Windows Disk Cleanup and it also can check for registry issues. When checking for registry issues, run it about 3-4 times until it lists no other issues.

Check your hard drive for file/system errors by running chkdsk. Open My Computer and right click on Local Disk C: selecting Properties, click the Tools tab and in the Error Checking area click the "Check now" button and select both options. It will tell you that it can't test the drive right now and it will ask if you want to schedule it for the next system startup... select Yes. Restart your computer so that it can check the drive. This test will take some time to run and at times may appear stalled but just let it run.

Follow up all of that with a full Defrag to ensure the best performance you can of the system.

This is also a known issue caused by the ZoneAlarm firewall software with scanning softwares like AVG, if you have that installed. Disconnect from the internet, uninstall ZoneAlarm and reboot, then perform a test scan to see if that resolved the issue or not. If the problem is resolved, many users were able to re-install ZA afterword but not all of them were and some had the problem return afterword. If you do choose to try re-installing ZA and the problem returns, we'd suggest using a different firewall.

Please provide us with the following outputs right after computer freeze:
- MSinfo output.
- Event log files.
- These log files:

AVG Log files are located here:

Windows Vista/7
C:\ProgramData\AVG9\Log
C:\ProgramData\AVG10\Log

Thank you
