I'm going through the same thing. It first happened Oct. 13th update. I kept rebooting and it kept telling me there was more to reboot again. I removed the program, reinstalled, on the 13th, and as of today, the 26th, it's doing it again. Same thing. I've been using AVG for years, and never had this problem. I'm frustrated enough right now to remove the program and go to Avast!
I have had more problems with AVG, first 9, and now 2011, in the past month, than with all my 10 years with AVG. I don't the problem, but I recall that only a program change required update, if successful, and not new definitions. Unfortunately, I have not been able to find out what type of update was in progress with 2011, unlike AVG9 which allowed me to do definition updates, and forget about errors with program updates. My settings in Tools|Advanced Settings|Updates|When to Update are either the first or third box. But, I have not had any problem like yours.
I have already downloaded another AV, and may have to make changes, if AVG does not come up with some answers.
This is driving me NUTS! Ever since updating our 2 PC's (running Windows XP) with the latest 2011 we keep getting a pop-up window titled "AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 2011 - Reboot". It says "Your computer needs to be restarted in order to finish the updating process". It did finish and both PC's have been rebooted at least 5 times in an effort to get this to GO AWAY. Does anyone respond to the posts from "free" users or know why it's doing this?
QUESTION OF THE DAY: If "free users" can't get support when AVG doesn't work right, then why do they offer a "free" version?
My installation of AVG 2011 keeps asking me to restart windows so it can update services. I have restarted 4 times but it continues to ask for a restart. What should I do?
Just wanted to reply was all. This is goofy. Why do I keep getting AVG desktop icon every time I put it in the recycle bin???????????? I already have it in the taskbar menu, I don't need it on my desktop why avg??????
Mine was asking for a reboot each day after update, so I got rid of both AVG9 installer and AVG2011 installer and downloaded a new copy from Cnet, and then it asks if you want to install, repair or uninstall. I repaired on each computer, one running XP and a lappy on Win 7. All seems OK today. Programme version 1153 and Virus database 3225.
This is not just a problem with the free version. I have the home version running on win XP and I'm getting this message as well. I'm also running the 2011 free version on win 7 and getting the same pop up message. No matter how many times I reboot the message still pops up....
