No matter what I try (even though I haven't tried a lot yet,) I can't get AVG's Tray Icon into the system tray. I've run the system tray program in the start menu folder, both normally and as an administrator (I have Vista x64.) I'm not sure whether it is turned off or not, as Windows security center hasn't told me AVG is turned off.

I DO have AVG set to have a system tray Icon, and I do NOT have the system tray set to hide inactive icons. what's the problem? confused

Please provide us more information about your system so that we may have it to base our suggestions on, see What information should I include?

Plan A is always more effective when the device you are working on
understands that Plan B involves either a large hammer or screwdriver....

Hey! I restarted my computer and the icon came back!

I can't see how I missed that step, because within the last hour I had several windows updates, HP updates, reinstalled LogMeIn Free, edited the startup tab in msconfig, and restarted windows explorer. You might say some of them needed me to restart my computer.

Douglas, As an aside.... Quote "Kaspersky Internet security trial".... Did you download & run the appropriate Kaspersky total removal tool?.... You should never have multiple antivirus programs installed since they will conflict with each other. See this post for more information as well as uninstall/cleanup util links Before Installing AVG 8.5 Free Edition.
