I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium (32bit Service Pack 1) with all updates and have a problem with AVG Free version 2014.0.4158. Database Version 3657/6921 (14 Dec. 2013)
The following options are installed : AVG Advisor, Anti Rootkit, Anti Spyware, Anti Virus, ID Protection, Quick Tune, Resident Shield, Surf Sheild, Personal Email Scanner.
I am constantly being informed that 'There are no active Components'.
I have been using AVG Free for more years than I can remember and have never experienced any problems, until I upgraded to version 2014.
I have also installed the 2014 Free version on a number of friend's computers and some of them are also experiencing this problem.
Sometimes I am able to cure the problem by repairing the installation, using the 'Change' option in Control Panel/Uninstall, but sometimes it will not complete the repair and reports an error. Efforts to uninstall the program and re-install a fresh copy, often fail, reporting that a file cannot be found.... I can't recall the actual details at present, since my latest effort to repair AVG has been successful.
However, although I currently have a working installation of AVG, I feel certain that it will fail again in the near future, and as a result, I have lost confidence in an Anti-Virus program, which I have always regarded very highly and always recommend to others ...........
Thank you for your reply - it is appreciated and I have logged the uninstall information on my PC.
However, the information does not address the basic problem of why the program is constantly reporting the "There are no active Components" error........
I followed the procedures as advised, and AVG seemed to work OK. When I booted up this afternoon, same old problem ......
I also had a phone call this morning from a friend whose computer I look after, and they reported that their copy of AVG is again reporting 'There are no active components'.
I have lost all confidence in AVG and I have now ditched AVG and installed an alternative and will do so on several other PCs.
