Good day
I have +/-50% of my PC's showing in AVG Admin console:
* Not Fully Protected
* Database is outdated
I tested this on Windows Server2008R2 and Windows 7 64bit.

I have sent logs to the South African AVG support engineers but they can not find anything.

WHAT NOW???

kind regards

more info..

Further on this:
I have now spoken to Deeno (AVG South Africa) to expedite this as URGENT.

Things to mention:
* I am running on AVG 2013 Business Edition.
* This is only happening on SOME of my PC's.
* I have downloaded the latest bin files to my server's c:\avgupdate directory.
* I have tried a recover-install on one of the clients.

NOTE: I am not willing to re-install on 50+ PC's to get this fixed!

Kind regards

Hi cyber7,

Pick any workstation that won't update correctly and run the attached AVG diagnostic tool on it.

- Enter your forum login address

Please let us know when the logs have been sent and we will check them for you to see why the update is failing.

Thanks,

Michael Allen

ran again...

Actually, the run was on a PC that needed a restart. I ran this again, so please look at the second set of results
(It has a comment of "Second Run")

Hi Cyber7,

Thanks for the logs.

Part of the issue is the workstations are getting a 'HTTP/1.0 403 Forbidden' error when trying to download from the Admin Server - http://1*.*.*.*:4158/avgupdate/avg13infoavi.ctf

If we can find out why the Admin Server is rejecting the workstations the update should proceed as normal. Would you mind attaching these logs from the Admin Server machine:

Server 2003:

Admin ini file - C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\AVG2013\Admin Server Data\avgadmsv.ini

Admin Server update log - C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\systemprofile\Local Settings\Application Data\Avg2013\admin_log\avgupd.log

Server 2008+:

Admin ini file - C:\Program Data\AVG10\Admin Server Data\avgadmsv.ini

Admin Server update log - C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile\AppData\Local\Avg2013\admin_log\avgupd.log

- Please add both the logs to a single zip password protected zip file (Use your login address as password).

Will check the logs and get back to you.

Thanks,

Michael Allen

Logs attached..

Thank you Michael
I have also taken the liberty of adding the Server Log (admserver.log) to the zip file. The reason is when I looked inside it I saw errors "HttpServer ERROR" you might want to see...

for the future...

Just something else:
For the future, how do I read the
MSG:...
in the log files? I think it will make trouble-shooting much easier and quicker for my environment. This problem has been looked at by various IT Engineers and AVG Engineers for the last 3 weeks and having the ability to read the log messages will make for quicker resolution of problems.

I am also seeing the following errors in my Server Monitor Window:
2013-11-07 08:05:57,638 Failed downloading file '/avgupdate/avg9infowin.ctf' (error code 0xE0018D32)
2013-11-07 08:06:41,357 Failed downloading file '/avgupdate/avg9infoavi.ctf' (error code 0xE0018D32)

Hi cyber7,

Unfortunately all AVG log files are encrypted and can only be unencrypted internally.

Please verify the domains from this FAQ are allowed through the Barracuda Firewall on the network - http://www.avg.com/gb-en/faq.num-5229

We can also test if the update works internally by doing the following:

- Add this line to the end of the avgadmsv.ini file:

DisableUpdateDownloading=1

- Save the file and restart the Admin Server

- Download the latest 2013 updates from this URL and save them to the 'C:\avgupdate\' directory - http://www.avg.com/gb-en/download-update

- Download the Genctf utility - http://www.avg.com/filedir/util/support/genctf2013_en.exe
- Run the genctf tool on the downloaded update files - genctf13x "C:\avgupdate"
- There should be a confirmation message that the tool has ran.

Try an update now from one of the workstations and see if its successful. You may want to change the URL order in the AVG Admin Console Shared Settings so the Admin Server URL is at the top of the list. The URL's are processed in order, at the moment, the Admin Server URL is currently set to be checked last by the workstations.

Let me know how you get on.

Thanks,

Michael Allen
