jhoff..

Looks like not. I ran this: uninstall-AVGAntispam.ps1

And it solved my problem - exchange transport service stops accepting connections periodically but it's still running and there are no interesting event log entries.

So looks like you still have a problem.

And I should mention I had the anti-spam module disabled in the UI as it's too aggressive.

Unfortunately this is still not resolved. The issue is caused by the Antispam\Program update. This will be fixed either via aspam or program update.

To stop the delays from happening, disable the Antispam and Program Update schedules in AVG > Advanced settings (Virus definitions update should not affect Exchange).

Command Line updates should work as normal so running this command via scheduled task should keep both Antispam updated and the mail flowing through Exchange. Once or twice a day is enough to run an update:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\AVG\AVG2013\avgmfapx.exe" /AppMode=UPDANTISPAM /source=inet

Apologies for the inconvenience caused by this.

Thanks,

Michael Allen

resolved..

Hi I have resolved this issue in the end of july, now its back since Friday 20-9-2013

(for English readers, translate in google ;-)

Edit.. Dutch to English translation..

I have uninstalled AVG with the tool that can be downloaded from the AVG site.
Then the server reboots (this was fixed when uninstalling!)
Power and turned on via ILO in order to get to the server and then the AVG removal tool off to retrieve the remains.
Reboot the server after I got the confirmation that AVG is completely removed.
Service Pack 3 for Exchange 2010 installed on the SBS 2011 server
Then downloaded the latest version of AVG email server installed and configured.
Now everything seems to work and I can update again.

Now a new problem. The antispam feature ensures that the mail does not come inside. Without any messages in the event viewers. It seems like every month I 10 - 20 hours to spend to get that AVG spam filter is not good figure.

I have already had so many problems with this spam filter that I toss and off via a 3rd party spam filter allows this.

Is there anybody who has suffered from the email delays in Exchange when AVG Antispam update is enabled willing to test a new dll for us? We would like to confirm if the problem is resolved before releasing as an update.

Please post back if you are willing and I will send details to your login address.

Thanks,

Michael Allen

Late to the party but did this ever get resolved? I've a client with SBS2011 standard, fully patched, running AVG Interent Security Edition 2013.0.3436
They get intermittent e-mail send / receive problems with mail delayed up to 4 hours. Stopping and restarting the Exchange transport service gets mail flowing, until the bug pops up again.

I could try the .dll if you haven't already found a volunteer.

Hi AVGSBS,

We had positive feedback from the people who tested the fixed dll and it was released a few weeks ago via an Antispam update so it should have been resolved.

Please let us know if this is not the case.

Thanks,

Hi!

Finally!!

I have been having this problem for months now and have been searching for a solution ever since I discovered it. Since it was unclear for me exactly when and how this problem started it's been difficult to locate the source of the problem. For the specially interested guys I have investigated back pressure, message throttling, glitch retry, anti-spam settings, connector setup and more in Exchange with no luck. I've also tried disabling AVG on the server (but not uninstalling) with no luck.

As described earlier in the thread the transport service goes into a non-responsive state several times a day. When telnetting into the smtp service telnet connects, but there is no response from the smtp service. This state can last up to 4 hours and users become quite frustrated when both internal and external mail flow is stopped.

2 days ago I stumbled across this thread. After stopping the program and anti-spam updates in AVG email server the transport service has been working perfectly for 2 days smile smile smile

However, you are claiming everything should now be working. This is not my experience. Today I tried updating manually via the AVG UI, and the transport service stopped again.

So now I finally have identified the culprit, all that is left is finding the cure...
Optic: please let me know how to check if I have the updated DLL or not.

My setup:
Windows SBS2011 server with Exchange 2010 SP1, running in a Hyper-V server 2012 VM
AVG Email server 2013.3462 (AVG Internet Security Business Edition)
8 (virtual) processors, 24GB Ram, lots of free disk space

Hi Cheezuz,

Sorry for not replying sooner. The issue has been resolved for some users, but not others. There is nothing further you can do at the moment. We would like to ask you to be patient and we will reply as soon as we have some further news.

Apologies for all the inconvenience caused.

Hi Optic!

Thank you for confirming my suspicions!
At least now I know that it's not my system that needs fixing. nerd

I believe it is a much better workaround to schedule anti-spam updates twice a day (as described in a previous post) than restarting the transport service every hour. I will test it out. For now my updates are just stopped.

Please follow up on this issue and let us know when a stable fix is available.
