Hello,

I am running AVG Internet Security 2013.

When I try and run an AVG scan it stops at 27 percent while checking the registry and I get a Blue Screen.

What can I do to troubleshoot this issue? I've looked at a few other posts but haven't found a solution. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi wildthinggfys,

most probably caused by corrupted registry hive. Please try to run harddrive check, maybe memory check.
Additionally we need a BSOD crash dump to analyze the issue. BSOD crash dump are located at C:\Windows\minidumps or in single file C:\Windows\MEMORY.DMP. Please upload the file to AVG's FTP site (see How to provide us with files..)

Hello,

I've run chkdsk and a memory test and both came back with no issues.

Attached are the chkdsk results and the last set of minidumps

Anything?..

Has anyone had a chance to look at this further? Paying for the premium version for software that I can't use doesn't seem to make sense. I might be better off uninstalling it and using MS Security Essentials.

Hello wildthinggfys,

For help on your issue please try unticking the "Scan System Environment" option from scan settings.

Registry corruption is just a symptom. What is causing it? I was running AVG 2013 Free on an XP box and got the exact same BSOD, as well as others. After upgrading to 2013, it ran without issues for a couple of weeks, but then I started to get 2-3 BSODs per week. On one occasion, I was not able to start the PC and had to boot from the recovery disk and do a repair. I finally gave up, removed 2013 and replaced it with MSE. No more BSODs. I would like to see this issue resolved and go back to AVG. That said, I am also running 2013 on a 32-bit Vista laptop without incident.

Blue screen when scanning..

I am also getting the blue screen when AVG free is scanning. I have even uninstalled and re-installed it and updated. The first optimizing scan is fine then the next day the scan causes a blue screen right at 3%. I attached the minidump file.

Hi Mac4u,

probably AVG's Anti-rootkit scan is causing your BSOD. Please temporarily disable rootkit scan in whole computer scan. see attached picture.
I'll send the mini dump to developers for closer look.

Thank you

Hi bbaldy,

BSOD can have many reasons. Without BSOD crush dump we cannot analyze the problem. The best were full memory dump. Please provide us with BSOD crash dump if you want the issue solved.

Thank you
