I have both AVG Antivirus Free Edition 2013 and BSecure installed on my system. However, I believe the permissions I have set up on BSecure is somehow blocking a site that AVG needs to get updates. Whenever I tell AVG to check for updates, I get the following error:
(!) Update Failed.
The connection with the update server failed. Please follow these steps:
* Make sure your internet connection is active, please try to open the
free.avg.com website.
* Try to run the update later or schedule an automatic update for another time.
* Make sure the connection parameters are set properly.
Try to find a possible solution in the FAQ (
http://free.avg.com/faq-appf8.pnuid-1254311540#faq_1243) section.
I can access the
free.avg.com website just fine, and I have been trying to get this fixed for a while, so I don't think waiting to try to update it at a later time will work. Furthermore, I found these (
http://free.avg.com/faq-appf8.num-1298 and
http://free.avg.com/us-en/faq.num-1334) links on the FAQ site, but carefully following there instructions did not help either. However, when I tried to access the sites listed in the second link from my web browser, they were all either nonsensical (and very short -- less than ten characters long) or could not be found by the browser. At no point in all of this have I seen the typical BSecure blocking page or the "Site Blocked" popup; however, I can get AVG to update with BSecure turned off; therefore, I still think it has something to do with BSecure.
I have tried emailing BSecure through their online form, but as several other people have noted, whatever BSecure support staff there are seem to ignore these emails. All I want to know is what sites (other than the sites listed here (
http://free.avg.com/us-en/faq.num-1334), since they have already been added and don't fix the problem) need to be added to my "Allow List" to make AVG work properly. Any help that anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Tim Lewis
