I keep getting this message when turning on my computer that there was an error loading vprot.exe. A google on this suggests this exe file is either an ok component of AVG2012 or part of Malware. So I'm unsure what to do about it. confused

There is a discussion thread relating to this for avg freeware, which suggests re-loading the software (http://free.avg.com/ww-en/download.prd-afh).

I also get this message every morning when I start the pc. It seems a bit time-consuming to un-install 2012 & re-install 2013 (I have very slow broadband). Is this the only fix?
What will happen if I do nothing? so far I have just closed the message & carried on for the day.
I have windows XP Pro (with SP3) and AVG Internet Security 2012 (paid for version)
Thanks

Hi suffolk lady,

You may ignore this warning if you want since the vprot.exe is just monitoring changes in your browser settings. Your computer is fully protected if your AVG components reports that they are enabled.

Unfortunately there is no other fix than upgrading to AVG 2013 at the moment. We would need more information from your computer to find the root cause of this issue.

Let me know if you would like to further diagnose this situation.

Thanks.

Thanks for your reply. I will probably do the un-install & re-install over the Christmas break when I have more time.

Good to know there is nothing to worry about at the moment. All vital AVG components are Active & updates are done daily.

Thanks
