Hi,

We use a programme called Vbase to upload volunteer vacancies to the national volunteering website www.do-it.org.uk in the UK. The upload tool works when the Firewall is turned off and when the firewall profile is set to "allow all". The profile is normally set to computer within a domain. After some research i believe it is to do with upload programme wanting access to FTP site.

I am running winXP SP3 with IE8, this is a problem on all winXp with IE8 computers that run vbase. We have one computer that runs windows 7 with vbase installed and the put online wizard "works" on that machine. I can't see any difference in avg setup between Windows XP & Windows 7.

AVG version 2012.0.2221
virus databse 6th Nov
Link Scanner 1344

any help would be very grateful

thanks

Hi Lee,

If the program works with the firewall set to allow all then we know that it is something in the configuration that is blocking it.

In order for us to locate the blocked communication please run this diagnostic utility: http://www.avg.com/filedir/util/support/avgfwdiag2012_en.exe
Set the firewall to your usual profile and run the program, type 1 into the screen and press enter. Restart the PC and induce the issue. Now run the utility again and type 5 into the window, after pressing Enter a zipped folder will be produced. Please upload this to our FTP server: http://www.avg.com/gb-en/faq.num-2142

Let us know the name of the folder and we get straight back to you with further information.

Hi David,

Have uploaded the file. It is called lee@erewashcvs.org.uk_07111646.7z

I had to change the filewall settings to "allow all" to upload the file.

Thanks

Hi Lee,

The firewall is detecting the communication as coming from "C:\Windows\system32\Svchost.exe", it can see no reason to allow the communication so it is blocking it.

To resolve this please follow these steps:

1. Open AVG and navigate to "tools">"Firewall Settings", Under your usual profile, click on "defined networks", if you can't see this click on the + sign to the right of the profile name. In the list scroll down to "IP addresses whitelist". Double-click on this and add the address: 195.194.49.6 and apply this setting.

You should now be able to upload using the Vbase application without disabling the firewall.
