Any recommendations for removing the virus fbigreendot moneypak. It has infected one of my computers running Windows XP. I can sign on using Safe Mode, but can no longer access the internet with Windows Explorer or do other basic operations.
Searching for a program with a similar name found nothing. Can I use an AVG tool to remove this? Can I load this tool onto a memory stick or floppy disc and get it to run
in Safe Mode? This is not just a bunch of kids fooling around, but an organized crime ring trying to extract money from people.

@ sherwindu

If the issue persists, Please provide more information (AVG scan result export, Msinfo output, GMER scan results) for closer analysis.

Impossible..

Forget it, impossible to rid. I have avg 2013 and it didn't catch it at all. In safe mode the task manager only showed 14 applications out of 30, no internet connection to get spybot or something downloaded, and after all day of working on it that laptop is smashed on the tiles into 10,000 pieces. Thats the FBI moneypak in a nutshell, if you get it just smash your computer as it's not going away.

And on scan results when I thought it was gone, before next restart, I ran a scan and it said no viruses. Then today it would not run as not online. I didn't restart it until AVG was warning me it needed a restart today, probably not even legit, who can say!

Reading other recent forum postings the latest AVG 2013 program update actually needed a restart for completion.

I was disappointed that my AVG Free 2013 did not catch this one. I could not get into my computer fast enough to run the taskmanager to stop it and clean it when rebooting.

I ended up having to boot off of my repair disk (you all made one of those when you first backed up your computer right?), then I let the computer restore to the last saved restore point and this scam was gone.

Hello all,

You can always try removing infection using AVG Rescue CD.

Thank you

My laptop caught this today getting by the Panda Cloud free version. A simple system restore in safe mode did the trick for me. I have since uninstalled Panda and installed AVG.

Disappointed here as well. Very hard to work around it. angry

For me, Safe Mode with Command Prompt, cd windows\restore, rstrui.exe

Took several hours to find this workaround. AVG has protected me for years, but AVG 2013 missed this one. frowning
