Not wearing my moderating hat again!!!.... Further to my previous post I've updated the 7.5 application again. Experimented this time by using AVG 9.0 update http://www.avg.com/ww-en/download-update-9 & it updated without any probs to 7.5.560 270.14.151/3918.

core modules..

OK, since the numbered definitions have caught up,
7.5.557 has worked for me using the def files from
the avg 8 page,twice a week.

Now on a fresh install I probably won't get 7.5.524 [from filehippo's archives] to update to 7.5.557 again.

So, if one does not desire all the bells and whistles, from the 9 [ok,9 doesn't have a 'core module'],2011 and 2012 free pages which one would be the best core module to install and just continue on with the manual definition file downloading/upgrading, as before with 7.5.xxx?

Given that one already uses Spybot S & D as well as ClamWin.

Hi Lone Browncoat,

It's not about bells and whistles only. Detection of new type of threats is significantly improved with every new AVG version and the core modules are not compatible.

We strongly recommend updating to a newer AVG version, if possible. You could install AVG 2012 without optional components and tune the configuration.

Feel free to post in the forums again if we could be of any further assistance.

Hey Al.
I reused what i had on a fresh install, do you recall how to get rid of the 8.5 nag screen
when you went to 7.5.560 yourself on that older machine?

I've got it now, and borrowing the definitions file from 8.5, 7.5.560 works great, even helped kill one worm and one trojan with yesterday's update file. Which is all one needs,
nice and tight! Only wish i could roll back to 7.5.557 like on the W2k of mine....no nag screen.
