No other virus or spyware programs running, windows firewall only.

Using AVG 2011 version 10.0.1424
virus databasae version 2113/4924

on Windows Vista
when trying to update the virus database, I get "Update failed....General Error."

When I try to uninstall AVG, I get "Setup Error"
Severity: Error
Error code 0xC0070643
Error message: General internal error.
The windows installer service could not be accessed. (MSI action failed)

When I try to update to AVG 2012, I get same
Additional message: MSI Engine: failed to initialize the package
@AVGMSI_Error 1719

We don't have any reports about it but it could.

Cannot install AVG 12..

went to link for MSI update, per the page linked:

For Windows Vista, Windows Vista Service Pack 1 and Windows Server 2008:
x86 Platform: Windows6.0-KB942288-v2-x86.msu
x64 Platform: Windows6.0-KB942288-v2-x64.msu
IA64 Platform: Windows6.0-KB942288-v2-ia64.msu

I tried all three and they returned a message that this did not apply to my system. Windows Vista SP2

I also found another AVG10 folder under another user directory. Deleted it.

There was a C:AVG$ directory with the virus vault in it, which I deleted

turned off iolo system mechanic

attached msinfo

fail to install AVG..

when executing vc_red, I get the message "Windows Installer service could not be accessed."

the MSI is built into Vista SP2, so I am not sure how to repair this file.
