The “Google secure search” term is still being frequently searched for at AVG Forums. It seems users could be confused by AVG Secure search even though we noticed no direct questions on this topic. Please be informed the search is powered by Google, only the results are checked at remote AVG server before displayed in your browser. Warning verdict icons are displayed with suspicious search results.

CNBC and Gardenweb.com false detection
AVG LinkScanner could have detected CNBC or Gardenweb.com websites falsely as suspicious in the past week. We have immediately released a virus database update removing the false detection and temporarily suppressed the detection for users who have not yet updated using in-the-cloud verification of detections.

Strange AVG file names
Forum visitors are still searching for strangely named AVG files, mostly the roc_roc_dec12.exe and vprot.exe file lately. If unsure about a certain file, we recommend checking its digital signature as follows:
- Right-click the respective file and select Properties from the context menu.
- Switch to the Digital Signatures tab.
- Verify that the file is signed by trusted authority as seen on this screenshot.
If unsure about an unsigned suspicious file, please send it to our virus specialists for analysis as described in this AVG Forums post or contact AVG Technical support.
General update error
A few users reported general error during AVG update in this week. Although a cause of the issue varies across the individual cases, the AVG repair installation will rectify the problem in most cases. More information about AVG repair installation procedure can be found in these FAQ articles:

How to remove an infection?
Several infection removal queries have been posted on forums and social networks lately. Sometimes an infection cannot be removed completely automatically and require user's interaction. The most straightforward way is to use updatedAVG Rescue CD to remove an infection when the operating system is not running.
Also, a malware is sometimes coming back when stored in the System Volume Information folder. You can disable the operating system's restore functionality temporarily in order to remove the malware from this location as described here.
