I also have this problem. Running Win7 64 Bit and I can't get update to work. I get the "Connection with update server has failed" error. Internet connection is good, I'm typing this as I try to update.
I had an issue before and Big Al helped me get AVG reinstalled and it did an initial update then. However for the last two weeks it has not been able to update on its own or when I try to manually update.
My other issue and thread were related to reinstalling. I did finaly get that resolved and got the program installed. However, I did not post a reply because I wanted to make sure that the update part was working.
I was away for a while and unable to post a response sooner. I did post that at that time it updated. I don't know why, however for a while now I have not been able to get the database to update.
Can you just rename the file? That is the ONLY avgupd.log file in the folder. Well, there is a .log.lock file and 1 through 9 of that file. Just be clear:
