I downloaded the tdss program.. it just wont open or run...

I completed the previous steps as mentioned, succesfully, and was able to view all files and folders but I was unable to run tdss?
The problem now is that this my PC has returned to its captive state!

Will repeating the previous actions to regain access to my files and folders, then extracting and running fix_disabled_desktop.reg and then AVG_OSfix.vbs remove the malware and return my PC to normal service?

Cheers

It should help.

Should the issue persist please provide us with requested files.

Thank you.

System Check free removal..

I think that by this time you can actually remove System Check virus for free with AVG's free vesion. However, this virus gets always amended by malware developers. You need to make sure that you personally update AVG regularly. You will have the problem of finding the necessary icons at your desktop, because System Check virus relocated all your files, folders, shortcuts, icons, quick launch items, etc. The programs in the Start menu would also be hidden. You would also not be able to find Internet Explorer's icon or the icon of other browser to download anti-virus software. Here is how you can actually download AVG or other free anti-virus tool (see the link):

System Check Resolved? Can I be sure?..

Hello, yesterday I picked-up this virus and through other places and this forum and especially Myke99 'Method B' was able to get back to normal.Point 2-took a couple of minutes,point3 about 10mins,point 4 -immediately/no errors I hope this means it did work. The only thing that did not complete was running the Malwarebytes anti malware program-errors occurred/it did not start. Was it clashing with my avg? I already pay for a 3yr deal version.I then did a re-run of a whole computer scan after following 'Method B'. Should this re-run have picked-up anything that Malwarebytes program would have? I am concerned there might be something 'lurking'.I also updated to windows update. Should I now remove malwarebytes program if avg is protecting me? AVG please advise.

It is possible but un-probable.

Please note that having multiple anti-malware solutions may result into unintended behaviour such as computer slowdown, false detections... because they may be using similar system resources.

In order to confirm whether your computer is clean, please provide us with files requested in this post for further analysis.

Thank you.

Thanks for the info,
I have done as you instructed and all appears to be well, apart from addressing the problem of hidden files and folders. However this is no big deal!

Also, every now and again, the system check scan page appears, but as i've registered with an assumed email and entered the activation code, this is easily closed. ive tried searching for the .exe file and it can't be found on my PC?

Today was the first time i re-connected to the internet since becoming infected. How confident can I be that my PC is clean?

Thanks again for your invaluable advice!

SC Bug..

I have AVG Free and am very happy with it. But I also have been infected with the System Check trojan. A couple of months ago my PC was infected with a similar bug, but AVG eventually found a fix in its regular scans after a few weeks. I am using XP and have seperate partitions for different users. Two are Administrators and 2 are not. The 2 non-admin user names are less affected , but still severly hobbled with all desktop links and icons gone.

The regular AVG scans are not fixing this problem at ther moment, but I know they will get on top of it some time soon. These bugs are constantly evolving and its a catch-up race for the anti-virus people to analyze their workings and kill them.

As a side note, -- I am pretty sure my PC became infected while scanning porn sites rather than through email. I certainly hope this bug can not be transmitted through emails as my email is still working and I have sent emails to friends since the infection started 2 days ago.

Hello Peterpanda,

Please follow steps mentioned by Myke99 in this thread in order to remove the infection.

Should the infection persists please provide us with sample files as described in How To Handle Infection Suspicion? sticky post and with files as requested here.

Thank you.

Wow! that worked, at least it did partially. I used method 1 and put in the registration key. It restored the system except for my desktop icons, the desktop was blank. But I was able to access "programmes" from the "start" button and restored the system to an earlier date (I am using XP).

So, everything is back to normal for now.

Thanks.
