Update problems....

Currently the latest vdb Iavi is 4106. What are you actually showing?.....

Please upload the "avgupd.log" and "avgupdm.log" files in an archive to the forum or the AVG FTP server / some online storage for brief analysis as described in this how-to article.

AVG 9 Update Problem..

Been having this problem for over a month. I can update from downloaded update file but click on update now and it looks like it downloads an update file but then says, no updates found.
Attached avgupd.log. Don't have a avgupdm.log on my system.
Running XP. AVG 9.0.925.

Hello jsb2b,

Issue is probably caused by error during merging LinkScanner database files. This can be easily rectified by updating the LinkScanner database manually from folder:

- Download full LinkScanner database.
- Open the AVG user interface.
- Click the "Update from directory" item located in the "Tools" menu.
- Select a folder with the previously downloaded LinkScanner database and perform the update.

Please accept our apologies for these inconveniences.

Thank you

I clicked on your link: http://guru.avg.com/softw/90free/update/x8all1013eh.bin
Got "File Not Found" so I downloaded Link Scanner: 861 (x12all1019zl.bin) dated January 30, 2012 from: http://free.avg.com/us-en/download-update and did as directed above.
It did checking for updates, analysing updates, finished - no new update files available.
Attached log file again.
Apparently AVG9 can't use the Link Scanner Files on the page I downloaded from???
Thanks

Hello jsb2b,

Please try to follow AVG 2012 (incl. Previous Versions) Uninstall / Re-Install Instructions.

Update to AVG 2012 if possible.

Thank you

That's not a solution. Why can I manually update from directory but not by auto-update?
I would expect that you would give me a proper link to see if I could download the LinkScanner database per Mr. Pokornyz's suggestion and not tell me to upgrade to AVG 2012.
Thanks

Hello jsb2b,

Current link for AVG 9 linkscanner database is:
http://guru.avg.com/softw/90free/update/x8all1025ua.bin

Please note that such links are temporary and may change again.
You may find permanent links for AVG 9 offline updates here:
http://www.avg.com/ww-en/download-update-9

I have recommended upgrade to AVG 2012 because if manual update still fails, full reinstallation is recommended.
Unfortunately, AVG 9 installation packages are no longer available at our site.

Thank you

Yesterday I downloaded the LinkScanner file at http://guru.avg.com/softw/90free/update/x8all1025ua.bin and did an Update from Directory. Result was "no new update files are available".

Since I have the full install file, Avg_free_stf_en_90_730a1834.exe, I did an Uninstall, rebooted, and tried a Repair Installation. It failed with some install file error and sent a dump to Microsoft. I rebooted and tried a full install. This failed the same way, wanting to send another dump to Microsoft.

I downloaded Avg_remover_stf_x86_2012_1796.exe and followed post #171231, rebooted, and did a full AVG 9 install. This completed successfully and rebooted. There were no new updates to install. So I didn't know if it was fixed or not. I did not want do file download and try an Update from Directory. Decided to wait for the next day as the database files seem to be updated daily.

Today I clicked on Update, It downloaded 4MB of files, installed the latest Virus Definitions, upgraded to AVG Version 9.0.927, upgraded the LinkScanner to Version 869, and installed 4 other files successfully.

This PC is now back to normal.

So I have no idea what got corrupted but maybe the Original Poster will read this if he ever returns. Maybe this will help someone else running this older version.....
Thanks
