Hi All,

I installed AVG on my Linux mail server under the root account.
The idea is to use it with amavis, so i configured amavis for use with AVG.
I used the AVG version avg2011flx-r1408-a3943.i386.

At this moment i can connect to port 54322 with telnet, so that looks fine.
But when i look into the AVG tcpd.pub.rollog is see the following messages:

[AVG.TCPD.PUB] INFO 2011-11-14 08:35:58,451 elmina PID:27991 THID:-1271817360 ID:AVG.Tcpd.Srv:1325.1406.19333072.0 MSG:AVG:8222: New connection established.
[AVG.TCPD.PUB] INFO 2011-11-14 08:35:58,452 elmina PID:27991 THID:-1271817360 ID:AVG.Tcpd.Srv:1703.1406.19333072.0 MSG:AVG:8222: Trying to scan path: "/var/lib/amavis/tmp/amavis-20111114T093342-26770/parts".
[AVG.TCPD.PUB] INFO 2011-11-14 08:35:58,455 elmina PID:27991 THID:-1246639248 ID:AVG.Tcpd.Log:1706.1406.19333072.0 MSG:VirusCheck Results (id=8221, err=0x0)
[AVG.TCPD.PUB] INFO 2011-11-14 08:35:58,455 elmina PID:27991 THID:-1271817360 ID:AVG.Tcpd.Srv:1375.1406.19333072.0 MSG:AVG:8222: SCAN request finished, error: 0x0

And when i check the AVG statistics there is no message checked:

------ Tcpd status ------
E-mails checked : 0
SPAM messages : 0
Phishing messages : 0
E-mails infected : 0
E-mails dropped : 0

It looks if AVG doesn't have the proper rights to scan de message parts, but then again it runs under the root account?!

Anyone any clue's?
Thanks!

Gr. Johan

EDIT.. Oh, and the uname -a command give's me this:

Linux elmina 2.6.32-35-generic-pae #78-Ubuntu SMP Tue Oct 11 17:01:12 UTC 2011 i686 GNU/Linux

Hello JohanBarelds,

Unfortunately AVG statistics are not changed because AVG receive only parts of messages from Amavis, so AVG can not count number of messages.

Thank you

Hi,

the avgctl --stat=tcpd output is related to SMTP processing done by avgtcpd module. Since you are using AVG with Amavis configuration the scanning is done differently. I agree it might be confusing.

Thanks all for the clear explainations. So if i understand it correctly the the code 0x0 in the AVG log actually means that scannning of the mail parts is working properly?

Yes, 0x0 is 'ok' result code (no error during processing).
