I am getting a BSOD after installing and running AVG 2012. I tried uninstalling with avg_remover and reinstalling to no avail. The error is an Invalid_Process_Detach_Attempt and is caused by ntoskrnl.exe. On further investigation, I found the avgmfx86.sys and fltmgr.sys file also involved in the crash.

Running the computer without AVG 2012 does not cause the BSOD.

Could anyone please help me in this matter? I am running WinXP SP3 with all updates.
Thank you.

Hi VerticalCobra,

Could you provide us with full crash dump of BSOD, for closer analysis ? Pack it into an archive, and put it on some online storage.
and with MSinfo32 output:
- Click on the "Start" button.
- Choose the "Run" option.
- Please type the "msinfo32" (without quotes) command to the command line and confirm by clicking on the "OK" button (or press Enter).
- After the tool is launched, please choose the "File" menu and the "Save..." option.
- Choose a name.

Please pack the output in an archive (zip file) and provide us with it.

Thank you

Dump..

Unfortunately, I have uninstalled AVG 2012 and installed Ad-aware. However, I have attached a crash dump file, if that is any help.
Thank you.

Hello VerticalCobra,

According to our development is your situation most-likely caused by Lenovo ThinkVantage Active Protection System (DozeHDD.sys, ApsHM86.sys, Apsx86.sys) or Lenovo Rescue and Recovery (tvtfilter.sys) drivers, please try update drivers

If even that doesn't solve your situation please try uninstall those drivers to see if it solve your situation.

Thank you

All the drivers you have pointed out are already updated. And I do not wish to uninstall utilities that protect my HDD from shocks (Active protection) and my backup (Rescue and Recovery).

Maybe I will come back to AVG when it works with Thinkpads... :undecided: Meanwhile, I will continue to use Ad-Aware.

Thank you for all the help

Hello VerticalCobra,

Thank you for the info. The full dump would help us to figure out what is the cause of the BSOD. If you have some time, could you please enable full memory dump creation using attached reg file, install AVG again, induce crash and upload full memory dump (%SystemRoot%\Memory.dmp) to Online Storage Service.

Thank you

EDIT by Will_h

I did not realize a full memory dump file was created earlier; thanks for pointing it out. It has been uploaded on the AVG server.

Thanks
