I'm trying to install the new 2011 version. I'm getting the same error code, but different info in the messages:

Severity:Error
Error code: 0xC0070643
Error message: Fatal error during installation.
Additional message: MSI Engine: Failed to initialize the package.
Context: Initailization

I'm running WindowsXP Pro SP3 32bit. I had AVG Free 9 installed. I have tried all the fixes in this thread. angry

Uninstalling AVG Free 9.
Delete old AVG folders.
Running MsiZap from command prompt.
Running AVG Uninstaller.
Running AVGID Uninstaller.
Reboot and install the latest version, avg_free_x86_all_1144a3191.exe. I still get the same error.

Here are my latest log files.
TIA

Reinstalling/ Uninstalling..

Hello,

I am experiencing the same problem. I used to have AVG 9.0 on Windows vista, only I updated to 2011 just recently... I wish now that I hadn't, because I am having all sorts of problems. My Malware does not switch on and AVG will not operate fully. But, the most bizarre illogical thing of all is, I cannot seem to uninstall it now either... So, now my PC seems to be making a loader noise and is running slower than usual... Please help me!!!

Here are my files:

and i meant that got the same error.

[quote=jirka82]Hello,

@alexgr
In case you face the same error as vettdj (C: drive is missing/is not system drive), please use the above outlined workaround.
In case you mean the "0xC0070643" error code, please note that it may refer to many different errors as I've mentioned in my previous post. Provide us with AVG installation log files in such case for analysis and we will be able to suggest further steps.

Thank you.

The dreaded Error Code 0xC0070643..

Hi, yesterday I tried upgrading to the 2011 version of AVG free, and also have the 0xc0070643 error message.

I've tried the steps in the other threads, disabling any other security programes, uninstall tool, manual delete the avg folders, custom install, etc, still doesn't want to work.

Can someone run an eye over my log file and see if anything stands out, I've been at this for 2 evenings now and am starting to think about trying another free anti-virus program as this is really annoying me.
