AVG Free Edition users, who have upgraded their AVG 9.0 Free Edition to AVG 2011 Free Edition and recently to AVG 2012 trial version may have experienced update issues. This issue was caused by obsolete configuration from previous AVG versions imported to the AVG 2012. We have immediately worked-around the issue on update servers. The issue does not occur anymore. Developers will prevent the situation in future by changes in the upcoming AVG program versions.
Should you face any challenge while updating AVG, please contact AVG technical support.
High CPU load if AVG Family Safety and iTunes are installed
AVG Family Safety users reported high CPU load when running the new iTunes 10.5 version. The situation does not occur when running iTunes 10.4. The high CPU load occurs with some other software products too. The issue is not caused by AVG from our point of view. Please contact Apple technical support for further assistance, if required.
Please be informed AVG 2012 includes a new AVG Advisor feature. It is designed to warn user that there could be a memory leak in your browser (in a script or a flash within a visited website, respectively). AVG records an average amount of memory used by a browser and is regularly checking the value during browser usage. In case the memory consumption is significantly increased, user is informed about possible memory leak. Browser re-start is recommended in such scenario.
Please see an example of AVG Advisor informative window here.
If you would like to disable AVG Advisor (this may be handy in case you are used to work with internet browser differently than most users), you may proceed as follows:
- Open AVG user interface and press F8.
- Select the Appearance item in the left tree.
- Untick the Display AVG Advisor performance notifications option as shown on this screenshot.
- This will disable both the notifications and memory usage monitoring.
- Click OK to save any changes.
New AVG Toolbar
Couple questions on recent AVG Toolbar changes were posted on AVG Forums and social media. The AVG Toolbar has been completely reworked, therefore it lacks some of features included in previous version at the moment. We are working on implementing the popular features in one of the upcoming AVG program updates. Please note that the previous version of toolbar is not compatible with the Firefox 7 browser. Here you can see examples of the previous version and current version of AVG Toolbar.
The current version of toolbar may not be installed while upgrading AVG 2011 to AVG 2012 in some cases. To rectify such situation, please reinstall AVG 2012 completely (involving AVG Remover in the process) as described in these forum articles: AVG 2012 Free Edition AVG 2012 paid products
