CPU 100%..

I'm having exactly the same problem as everyone else here, processor is at 100% with avgcsrvx and avgrsx taking it all. I'm running AVG Free 9.0.725 database 270.14.126/2601. PC is a Fujitsu Siemens Lifebook S7020 with a Centrino 1.8 @ 800MHz and Win XP SP3 fully updated, 1Gb RAM and an 80Gb hard drive of which 50Gb is free. It's been like this for a week. Help!

Re: Same Here!..

I seem to have jumped on this thread a bit late, but I'm having the same issue all of a sudden as well: avgcsrvx.exe (x2), avgrsx.exe and csrss.exe are taking up 100% of CPU usage. Google Chrome has stopped working and every other program is really slow. My windows firewall also seems to turn off everytime I shut down. I can turn it on manually without any problems, but it seems weird. Here is the needed information:

Acer Aspire One
Windows XP
AVG Version: 9.0.725
Virus DB: 270.14.128/2604
I don't have any other antivirus or protection installed

If I have missed out on any needed information please let me know. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Yup....Ditto....:(..

I have the same problem with avgcsrvx.exe using up ALL(100%) of my CPU.

Its makes the computer worthless.
When I open my taskmanager and terminate the file(only that file!!), the computer suddenly runs on normal values, and smooth.

But I guess my protection is less????
The program(AVG) still reports all system go....????

So what does this file (avgcsrvx.exe) do anyway than????

Well here goes :

Windows version XP Professional V2002 P3
AVG &virus db version -> AVG 9.0.725 DB 270.14.131
Other antivirus software installed / previously uninstalled ->Both accounts NEGATIVE
Other protection software installed ->NEGATIVE
The exact error message you are getting (if any) ->NONE CPU just works 100% and when i stop avgcsrvx.exe this level drops to normal values

I've been scanning for a whole week now, can''t find anything, but the problem remains.

My oppinion on AVG was very high, used it for years now without any complaints.

I won''t like a new protectionprogram, but I am realy fed up with this and can't wait a day more.
So than its bye bye AVG :crying:

Please help me out!!

Thanks in advance

Windows has an area in the registry that is normally used to help debug program issues but also has other uses. Sometimes malware will add a registry entry to this Window's registry key so that when you try to run AVG or another protection software, the malware or other program is actually run instead. In these cases, the registry entries that may have been made must be manually removed in order that AVG can work properly.

Please open the Windows Registry Editor
- open menu Start -> Run -> enter "regedit" and confirm OK

When the Registry Editor is open, find this key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options

Right click on the main key name and select Export to make a backup before you make any changes.

Check that none of the sub-keys have names like any of AVG's processes or files (all AVG processes):

avgam.exe
avgcfgex.exe
avgcmgr.exe
avgcsrva.exe
avgcsrvx.exe
avgdiag.exe
avgdiagex.exe
avgdumpa.exe
avgdumpx.exe
avgemc.exe
avgfrw.exe
avgfws8.exe
avgfwwiz.exe
avgiproxy.exe
avgnsa.exe
avgnsx.exe
avgrsa.exe
avgrsx.exe
avgscana.exe
avgscanx.exe
avgsrmaa.exe
avgsrmax.exe
avgstrma.exe
avgstrmx.exe
avgsysta.exe
avgsystx.exe
AVGToolbarInstall.exe
avgtray.exe
avgui.exe
avgupd.exe
avgwdsvc.exe
fixcfg.exe

If you find any lines that include those in them, remove that line from registry. Do not remove other lines for other programs unless you know for certain that they should not exist.

So I went there and saw these programs:

ondraploteny, don't you think it is better to keep this discussion in the public domain? I too am having this problem, and I would be eager to read more about it, and to help provide information if I can.

You have not provided any steps to try to combat the issue, despite seeming to have had plenty of time.

Here is how I can replicate the issue on my machine, which is WinXP SP2 with AVG 9.0.725.

1) Log in as a user with non-admin rights

Note: I wish to add a scheduled task under the admin account....

2) Start Internet Explorer 6, by right clicking on the IE6 shortcut while the left shift key is depressed. Select "Run as" from the menu. Enter Administrator username and password.

3) Type Control Panel into the address bar

4) Scheduled Tasks / Add Scheduled Task

At this point, avgcsrvx.exe will take maximum CPU resources, and the machine will become extremely slow and unresponsive.

In an attempt to gain control of the machine, I start Computer Management as Administrator and try to stop the AVG Free Watchdog service, but the Stop option is greyed out.

I hope you can help with this, and that you will respond here in the forum so that other users can access the information if needed.

Thank you in advance
Hal

Hi,

please be informed that we have not received any answer from mentioned users yet.

These steps will be reported.

I have checked it with my current image (XP SP3 and IE8), but I was not successful - it was not possible to run Control Panel from IE. Will check it with other older image...

Thanks

Startup Resource Hog..

The following file is a startup resource HOG.
avgcsrvx.exe
PLEASE rework your software to lower this file impact on our PC systems. This file running at (about) 97% for several minutes is NOT making people happy.
Throughout PC history the reboot time has always been a hot issue of wasted time.
SO FAR it has been a fine product but keep its workings in the background please.

Many others have the very same issue and it has gone on long enough without a fix.
WHY loose customers over a simple fix? :undecided:

You will only be able to run Internet Explorer 6 using the "Run as" command - not any later versions.

Please would you explain to me why I cannot stop the AVG service from the Computer Management Console?

Thank you

fm-usa, I think you are underestimating how difficult software bugs are to isolate, bearing in mind that we are all experiencing this using completely different combinations of hardware and software. Give the guys a break, will you?!

The important thing in my opinion is that the company is open with the information it has about this issue, by sharing it with the community, and that it communicates it well and frequently.
