Hello! I have the USB Rescue system up and running perfectly, very good! However, I am trying to create a system/method for use by everyday people, who have enough trouble with windows, let alone linux!

What I would like is for the USB stick to automatically begin a pre-configured scan, removing the GUI where options are set. I've been trying various things including bash scripts, one along the lines of:

#!/bin/bash
/opt/bin/avg8/avgscan --ignerrors --report /opt/avg/arl/scan_report_DDMMYY_SYSIDXXXX.txt --arc --pwdw --arcbombsw --heur --pup --pup2
--coo --hidext --macrow -W '/mnt/sdb1/WINDOWS\\%WINDOWS%' "/mnt/sda1" "/mnt/sdb1"

The USB device(s) are intended to be as fast and efficient as possible, in servicing computers which are all identical (windows will always be on /sdb1). If it is not possible for this to be automatic, the next best thing would be to add an option on the initial GUI which has the "AVG Rescue CD" .... "Exit to the syslinux boot prompt" menu to run the above command.

Unfortunately I havn't been able to get this to work so far, any input or previous methods would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Update: I think i need to include the following before executing the scan:

avgctl --start

Hi.

Use "avgscan" instead of "/opt/bin/avg8/avgscan". It shouldn't be run directly.

In /opt/avg/arl/arl.sh is menu where you can put this line.
For example instead of "Eject rescue cd." function which is in "Eject") block.
It has no meaning for usb stick.

good luck.

works great, thanks alot! also encorporated something along the lines of

cp /opt/avg/arl/scan_report.txt /mnt/sdb1/results

to copy the results onto the USB Drive so you can view it later on another computer

updating problem..

the scan is working fine. however, when i go to update i get the following:

"Update failed: General error."

I then went to the bash prompt and ran avgupdate (/opt/avg/avg8/bin) and got the same error.

I also tried another approach incase of network issues or file permissions. I ran

avgupdate --download --path=xxx

which worked fine, i saved all of the new updates. but when i ran

avgupdate --source=folder --path=xxx

i got the same General Error as both previous attempts.

Ideas?

Hello c4m1k4z3,

For help on your situation please use alpha version, in which has been fixed some update issues.

Please accept our apologies for these inconveniences.

Thank you

ARL USB..

Please create your usb ARL from latest version which was published here:
http://www.avg.com/ww-en/avg-rescue-cd-download

There was not enough space for latest virus database on ARL FS and it was fixed in version 110314.
